The Ultimate Guide to Captiva Island, Florida

While you’re staying in one of our Sanibel Island condo rentals, you’ll want to take some time to visit the neighboring destination of Captiva Island, Florida.

This little slice of paradise is one of the most underrated destinations in the Sunshine State, but it’s definitely worth your time!

There’s so much to see and do here, so Captiva Island is sure to become a favorite spot for your entire family. Here’s everything you’ll need to know before you go!

Captiva Island is a bit smaller than Sanibel Island at under 5 miles long and just half a mile wide. However, the views and scenery you get here are nothing short of immaculate. You’ll be able to learn some incredible history dating all the way back to the times of the pirates, shop in quaint local boutiques featuring one-of-a-kind items and souvenirs, and dine on some of Florida’s freshest and most delicious seafood. No matter what you’re looking to do while you’re on vacation, you can find it amidst the relaxing locale of Captiva Island!

Things to Do & Attractions

Of course, you’ll have to spend some time on the beach when you come to Captiva Island, and with so many beach activities, you can spend an entire day on the sand! Captiva Island (and Sanibel as well) is known for its incredible shelling opportunities. Since the island has an east-west orientation as opposed to the typical north-south, seashells easily get washed up onto the shores, perfect for grabbing a unique souvenir and creating amazing memories! While you’re on the beach, you can also splash around in the crystal clear waters, look out for dolphins or other marine life, or get your thrills on a Sanibel Island jet ski rental or kayak. The possibilities are endless!

But beachgoing isn’t all that Captiva Island has to offer. If you’d rather stay on dry land, you can explore some of the area’s incredible art galleries and artisan shops, or if you want to stay active, try your hand at golf or tennis! Of course, there are several local restaurants and cafes on the island as well when you want to sit down for lunch or enjoy an afternoon pick-me-up. Captiva Island might be small, but it’s packed full of activities that you and your family are sure to love.

Thankfully, getting to Captiva Island from our Sanibel Island beachfront rentals isn’t hard at all. In fact, the journey only takes 20 minutes! The directions to Captiva Island are super easy as well. On Sanibel Island, you’ll need to start by making your way to Sanibel Captiva Road toward Wildlife Drive (traveling northwest). Follow this road for just over 5 miles until it brings you to Blind Pass Bridge, which you’ll cross. Then, simply continue onto Captiva Drive for 3.4 miles to bring you to the center of the island! It’s a quick journey that’s well worth the trip, so you can fit in some time on Captiva Island no matter what the rest of your itinerary has planned.
