Find True Relaxation through Yoga on Sanibel
As if the beaches and the sunshine weren’t relaxation enough, there is another way to get truly relaxed during your Sanibel visit. There are two yoga studios on the island that offer a variety of yoga classes and techniques.
Meeting at the newly renovated Community House twice a week, Sanibel Yoga classes are led by Dr. Susan Pataky. Classes are offered for all levels, from beginner to advanced. Participants can learn and refine key actions to develop greater awareness of postural fundamentals, precise alignments and efficient use of the breath for this full-spectrum experience that will gently re-unite the body/mind systems.
Dr. Pataky has been teaching yoga on Sanibel and Captiva for 15 years and in the northeast since 1979. She has a doctorate in Naturopathic Medicine and is a member of the International Association of Yoga Therapists.
The Community House is located at 2173 Periwinkle Way and classes are offered Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 10 am – 11 am. The cost for a drop-in class is $20 (cash only) and $18 for Community House members. Call (239) 472-2155 for more information.
Another yoga alternative on Sanibel is Sanibel Pilates and Yoga. The studio is located at 975 Rabbit Road and is open six days a week, offering yoga and pilates classes, as well as fun, new takes on traditional yoga classes, such as aerial yoga. The beginner class in aerial yoga offers basic yoga postures in a soft, silk hammock.
Sanibel Pilates and Yoga also offers the chance to practice yoga in the outdoors. Yoga on the beach and on paddleboards is offered on the Sanibel Causeway. Beach yoga is offered on Tuesdays and Thursday from 8 -9 am and stand-up paddleboard yoga is offered from 9:30 to 11.
