Sanibel Makes Expedia’s List of Top Vacation Destinations in North America

What so many of you know is now confirmed – Sanibel is a top vacation destination, based on reviews posted by Expedia travelers in 2017. “Top-Rated Vacation Destinations in North America” is posted on Expedia Viewfinder travel blog, the second annual list of the top 50.

Travelers posted reviews of more than 4,600 travel destinations and Sanibel was ranked number 15, just behind another popular Florida destination, Key West. This year also marks Sanibel’s first appearance on the list. The top destinations received at least 600 reviews and are listed in order of the highest reviewed. The number one spot went to Wailea, Hawaii.

What did visitors like about Sanibel? Among the top-rated activities were shelling, enjoying the peacefulness of the island and all the wildlife, plus eating at its many restaurants and enjoying the local seafood.

John Lai, president of the Sanibel-Captiva Chamber of Commerce commented on our island’s ranking. “To be one of only two Florida destinations chosen is quite an honor. We have consistently offered world-class beaches, shelling, shopping, biking, fishing and dining, but our sustainable initiatives and undisturbed natural environment are truly what sets us apart.”
