Sanibel Sea School Summer Programs
The Sanibel Sea School is truly one of a kind, and the school offers one of a kind experiences. Sanibel Sea School was founded on two primary beliefs: a love of the ocean, and a dedication to ocean stewardship. Its classes are built around hands-on learning and experiencing sea life up close and personal. Students become excited to touch, feel and see sea life in its natural habitat.
Students ages 6 to 13 can choose from topics as diverse as “Frigatebirds – The Flying Pirates”, “Skates and Rays – Flattened Fish”, or “Seahorses – The Ultimate Mr. Mom.” Each course is offered as a half-day session. Students can choose two courses for a full day of activity.
The Sanibel Sea School was founded by Dr. J. Bruce Neill and Evelyn Monroe Neill in 2005. Their mission for the school is simple: To improve the ocean’s future, one person at a time. Throughout the year, the Sanibel Sea School gives classes for both children and adults, but its specialty in the summer is reaching growing minds and treating them to a life-changing experience.
Half-day, full-day and weekly camps are offered. The choices are many and can be seen on the Sea School’s website at sanibelseaschool.org. A weekly camp offering in August, for example, is entitled Jiggly Wiggly Comb Jelly Week and goes from August 15 – 19 from 9:00 am until 4:00 pm. On Monday, August 1st, for example, students can study “Barrier Islands – Land Divided by the Sea” from 9:30 – 12:30, and then learn all about “Bivalves – Two Halves of the Same Shell”, from 1:30 until 4:30 pm. Half day courses are $55.00 and full day courses are $110. The Sanibel Sea School also has scholarship opportunities. The program choices are almost too numerous to mention, but each one gives a unique perspective of ocean life. Who wouldn’t want to attend “Manatees – Mermaids Among Us” or “Pelicans – Acrobat Divers”?
