Sandalfoot is pleased to welcome two respected shell experts and authors, S. Peter Dance and Harlan Wittkopf, who are on Sanibel to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the National Shell Museum. Mr. Dance is one of the world’s leading shell experts and is a well-known author in the field. He first started coming to Sanibel in 1971, while serving as a judge at shell shows in southern Florida. His career has included tenure at museums including the Natural History Museum in London. His writing credits include The Shell Collector’s Guide, Shell Collecting: An Illustrated History, Rare Shells, and, with R. Tucker Abbott, Compendium of Seashells.
Wittkopf, a published author in his own right, collaborated with Dance in 2007 to create Beach Treasures of the Gulf Coast. He also wrote Gems to Treasure in 2008. The book is dedicated to Dance, whom Wittkopf credits as a “living legend” in the field. Sandalfoot is pleased to welcome these world-renowned guests as they participate in the National Shell Museum’s 20th anniversary. Wittkopf is also the author of the Sanibel Kaleidoscope, now in its 6th Edition, and the popular children’s book, Alphie Finds the Seashell Alphabet.
