2nd Annual National Seashell Day!
June 20th 2016 was the inaugural National Seashell Day. The newly proclaimed day reached a national audience for the beaches of Fort Myers and the Islands, with Good Morning America host Ginger Zee broadcasting that day’s show from Sanibel. Not only did our local area receive national attention, but also the beloved icon of National Seashell Day, the Shell Love Bug, was unveiled.
The 2nd annual National Seashell Day will be no less spectacular and will be celebrated on Wednesday, June 21st this year, coincidentally the first day of summer. National Seashell Day will again celebrate the rich shelling resources of southwest Florida, and particularly the beaches of Fort Myers, Sanibel and Captiva. Lee County is world-famous for seashell collecting, with its 50 miles of beachfront and roughly 400 varieties of shells in all shapes, sizes and colors.
Sandalfoot will honor this day that celebrates the beauty of the shells that roll up on our beach with each new wave. Sanibel is blessed to be one of the best shelling destinations in the world and many Sandalfoot guests have taken home treasures they found while visiting here.
