Sanibel Farmers Market is Back  and everyone is loving it!

farmers market founders Sanibel IslandLooking for a pleasant addition to your Sunday mornings on Sanibel? The Sanibel Farmers Market, established in 2008, has re-opened as of Sunday, Oct. 2 for the 2016-17 season, much to the delight of visitors and residents.

The Market takes place from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sundays through April 30, although it will be closed on Christmas Day, Dec. 25 and open on Monday, Dec. 26.

Held on the grounds of City Hall at 800 Dunlop Road, the event attracts dozens of regional vendors offering local produce, honey, breads and bakery items, meats, flowers, cheeses, coffee and donuts and numerous other products, including organic foods, and some local craft items.

Some tips for first-timers: Handicap parking is available, and parking lot attendants are usually on hand to direct all in-coming vehicles to open parking spots. Drivers also may drop passengers at the entrance  before parking. Some vendors do take credit cards, but it’s a good idea to carry cash. And bring along a basket or bag for all your purchases, although some vendors do have plastic bags, should you need them.

Well-behaved, leashed dogs are allowed to attend and service dogs are welcomed at the Sanibel Farmers Market.

While there are no site maps for the Market, it’s easy to take a lap through the grounds and see who all the vendors are before you actually start shopping. You’ll find an impressive array of edible items at the Sanibel Farmers Market and likely will want to add a stop there as a pleasant addition to your stay on the island.

The Sanibel Farmers Market is operated by Local Roots, LLC, established in 2008 and owned and operated by Lee County residents Jean Baer and Betsy Ventura. The business also operates six other large farmers markets in the county and loves to promote the opportunity to buy locally. For more information, visit the Local Roots website at
