Early autumn on our islands marks the return of a unique event that’s been drawing music lovers from near and far to Sanibel, Captiva and the greater Fort Myers area, to enjoy the talents of regional and national artists performing at intimate tropical settings.
The third annual Island Hopper Songwriter Fest will bring more than 60 seasoned and up-and-coming songwriters to the region for 10 days in late September. These artists will share the stories behind their music, lead songwriting workshops, and engage with the public at events such as sunset cruises and pool parties.
The singer-songwriters participating in this year’s Fest are a prolific group, having written hits for stars such as George Strait, Garth Brooks, Celine Dion, and Ariana Grande. One such notable is Nashville headliner Maren Morris, who’s touring with Keith Urban. She’ll perform her hit “My Church” at the Oct. 2 conclusion of the Fest.
Captiva Island will launch the opening weekend of free performances Sept. 23-25 at participating venues including the Crow’s Nest at ’Tween Waters Inn, Key Lime Bistro, Doc Ford’s Rum Bar and Grille Captiva, and South Seas Island Resort. Historic downtown Fort Myers will host midweek performances Sept. 26-29 at locations such as the new Barrel Room at The Twisted Vine Bistro. The event concludes Sept. 30-Oct. 2 at several resorts on Fort Myers Beach. A limited number of ticketed events for special performances will be offered.
