Fourth of July on Sanibel!

Sanibel Island knows how to do an old-fashioned Fourth of July, with celebrations that begin with a pancake breakfast and end with fireworks over San Carlos Bay.

The day begins with a free pancake breakfast served at the Sanibel Community Church from 7:00 until 9:00 am. Breakfast includes hot cakes, sausage, fresh fruit, juice and coffee. The church is located at 1740 Periwinkle Way. Although free-of-charge, donations will gladly be accepted to benefit the Summit Christian Preschool. Breakfast guests are invited to stay for the parade that begins at 9:30. There will be shaded seating as well as cold drinks.

This year’s 4^th of July Parade, themed “Wild About America,” begins at 9:30 from Bailey’s (Periwinkle and Tarpon Bay Road) and ends at Jerry’s (Periwinkle and Casa Ybel Road). Jerry’s is located at 1700 Periwinkle Way, and will also host a 4^th of July celebration that begins at 10:30.

The San-Cap Optimist Club is holding its 39^th annual Road Rally on July 4^th. Like an “automobile scavenger hunt,” the race begins at noon from the Timbers parking lot at 703 Tarpon Bay Road. Registration forms can be obtained at www.sancapoptimist.org.

The highlight of the day is the much-anticipated fireworks display that is sponsored by the City of Sanibel. The fireworks begin at 9:00 pm above the Sanibel Causeway and the event will be held rain or shine.

For a unique and memorable 4^th of July, consider a cruise with Adventures in Paradise and join them on their annual 4^th of July Cruise. It lasts approximately two hours, leaving the “G” dock at Sanibel Marina at 7:30 and returning around 9:30. Complimentary soft drinks, bottled water and snacks are served on the cruise.
