5th Annual ‘Ding’ Darling & Doc Ford’s Tarpon Tourney
If you are an angler, mark Saturday, May 7th on your calendar! The 5th annual Tarpon Tournament will pay out 100% of the entry fees and competition is limited to 50 teams. The team fee is $500 for up to four anglers, and the registration deadline is April 29th. Last year, 48 teams participated and the first place winner, Team Sportfisha.com, won over $11,000.
The 2015 ‘Ding’ Darling & Doc Ford’s Tarpon Tournament paid out more than $25,000 in prizes and raised more than $50,000 to support conservation efforts at ‘Ding’ Darling. Doc Ford’s has again committed to being the Title sponsor. Diversified Yacht Services Inc. is the Presenting sponsor. Proceeds from the tournament will benefit wildlife and conservation education at J. N. ‘Ding’ Darling National Wildlife Refuge on Sanibel Island. The tournament is classified a catch-release-care tournament.
The tarpon is a premiere game fish because of its stamina, strength and fighting ability. Tarpon can weigh up to 280 pounds and are nicknamed the “silver king.” They are found primarily in shallow coastal waters and estuaries, but they can also be found in open marine waters.
The ‘Ding’ Darling & Doc Ford’s 2016 Tarpon Tournament promises to be an exciting day on the Gulf waters. The tournament is unique to this area and is a draw for both local anglers and visitors from other states. It is yet another example of the bounty of the waters surrounding Sanibel.
