F.I.S.H. of Sanibel, Inc. is the leading non-profit, non-sectarian, human services organization, focused on “neighbors helping neighbors” on Sanibel and Captiva. The 10K Race 4 F.I.S.H. scheduled for October 19th will be our key fundraising event for 2013. The race will be held at the Community House and is run in conjunction with the Fort Myers Track Club.
ABOUT F.I.S.H
The mission of F.I.S.H. is to lend a helping hand to those in need on Sanibel or Captiva who live, work or visit here. Our objective is to make a social investment in our community that assists our neighbors to live independently with dignity in their homes.
In 2012, we provided services to 1,158 individuals (813 households) on Sanibel and Captiva. With our 200 F.I.S.H. volunteers we:
- Distributed over 74,500 pounds of food to 223 families
- Provided $210,367 of emergency financial assistance and client support
- Supplied 1,293 backpacks with weekend food to 57 children
- Transported clients to 167 medical related appointments
- Delivered 2,189 meals to clients with limited mobility or needing assistance
- Loaned 535 pieces of medical/health equipment
- Placed 1,122 phone calls to households needing reassurance
- Performed over 200 hours of visits to housebound clients
- Provided 156 holiday meals to needy families
- Assisted 45 elderly or disabled households with hurricane preparedness
- Helped 34 young people with youth summer scholarships
The FISH Walk-In Center is a designated United Way House and can offer enhanced services to our clients. Several United Way agencies in Lee County are working with F.I.S.H. of Sanibel, Inc. to develop more effective, cost-efficient social service programs. The FISH Walk-In Center also houses our Food Pantry in partnership with Harry Chapin Food Bank of Southwest Florida. The FISH Food Pantry is an equal opportunity provider.
