Remodel

When you visit the library, you’ll get to see the newly renovated facilities that have genuinely impressed the local community. The “Your Library Reimagined” project was a huge endeavor that updated some aspects of the library dating back 25 years or more. The renovation included:

  • Installing over two miles of new ductwork.
  • Relocating over 70,000 items within the library.
  • Installing 28,000 pieces of new carpet tile and over 40 floor-to-ceiling windows.
  • Adding around 1.2 miles of shelving.

Additionally, the Sanibel Public Library got to experience a significant upgrade to its technology. The facility added two brand new computer labs with blazing fast internet, built a new Archives Room where people can scan and digitize their photos, improved their WiFi, added new digital signage, and improved much of their technology behind the scenes. All of these improvements contribute to a more effective and up-to-date facility for all patrons.

Finally, the library’s entire layout was redesigned to make the community a more efficient and fulfilling environment. The reading porch was expanded, new furniture was added to the children’s section, the Teen Space was enhanced, and the “Think Tank” MakerSpace was improved. Your kids are sure to appreciate all the hard work that went into creating this magnificent space!

Exhibits

The Sanibel Public Library is not just a fun space; it’s also an educational and beautiful one! There are often rotating exhibits coming through the library to provide a new and unique experience every time you visit. Some exhibits seek to shed some light on the fascinating local history. Other times, there are beautiful pieces of artwork on display, showcasing the talents of the most dedicated and passionate local artists!

For instance, in spring 2021, local artist Jim Storer had nearly two dozen pieces of his art shown off at the library. This breathtaking exhibit featured some incredible watercolor and acrylic paintings, offering a unique viewpoint on the area’s natural beauty. When you visit the Sanibel Public Library, you never know what kind of exciting exhibits are going to be waiting for you!

Children’s Programs

If you’re searching for something fun, safe, and free for your kids to do while you’re in town, the library is the perfect place to go! This facility has an expansive children’s collection. Their children’s section always has fun events and programs that your kids can participate in, whether they’re tots or teens.

For babies and young kids, storytime is a great way to keep them engaged and learning while you’re on vacation. The library holds several of these events geared at different age groups. The librarians are great at bringing the stories to life and getting everyone involved! This activity can also be a great way to bond with your younger kids.
