Fourth of July on Sanibel!

Sanibel Island knows how to do an old-fashioned Fourth of July, with celebrations that begin with a pancake breakfast and end with fireworks over San Carlos Bay.

The day begins with a free pancake breakfast served at the Sanibel Community Church from 7:00 until 9:00 am. The church is located at 1740 Periwinkle Way. After breakfast, stroll over to the Bailey’s Center for fun and games, including face painting for the children. The Bailey’s Celebration begins at 8:30.

As if that wasn’t enough excitement, the San-Cap Optimist Club is holding its 37th annual Road Rally. Participants compete for prizes and vehicles are ranked based on the number of correct answers to questions posed by the club. There is also a new prize this year for the best decorated vehicle. The race begins at noon from the Timbers parking lot at 703 Tarpon Bay Road. Cars will depart every two minutes. It is not too soon to fill out the Road Rally registration form, that can be obtained at Proceeds from the rally support the club’s six college scholarships and many other benefits for local youth.

The highlight of the day is the much-anticipated fireworks display that is sponsored by the City of Sanibel. The fireworks begin at 9:00 pm and the event will be held rain or shine. Fireworks will be launched on the Bay side of Sanibel and the Lighthouse Beach is an excellent location to watch them.
