For those adventurous types who love to experience the ocean to the fullest on their vacation, then Sanibel is the place for you.
Some may want to charter a boat and try their luck at fishing, but some people may want to do that and more. If you like a bit of excitement and the rush that comes from conquering the great sea, even if you are in a kayak, then Sanibel Island has everything you need to embrace your watersport adventure.
Kayaking & Paddle Boarding
Whether you are experienced in a canoe or kayak, or you’ve never been in one, not to worry. You can rest assured you will still have a great time kayaking Sanibel Island. There are double kayaks for those who need a bit of help or want someone else to do the heavy paddling. Rent them for a few hours for a bit of exercise and a paddle around the marina, or rent them for a few more hours or the entire day to get a whole morning or afternoon of water travel in.
Please pack a lunch to take with you and make a day of it. Don’t forget your camera, as you will want to capture the area’s breathtaking beauty. These are sites that not everyone gets to see! If there are several of you, you can make a reservation for groups of eight or more so everyone can get in on the fun. These trips are not recommended for children under three.
You can even download the BoatCloud Launch app and make and keep track of your reservation, see the times, and watch for any changes or updates. There are plenty of places along the way you can stop and explore.
Boat Rentals
If you are looking for boat rentals on Sanibel Island, then you are in luck. The boats are fully Coast Guard equipped and have very comfortable and lush interiors. Comfort and safety will always come first. When renting a boat, some rules must be followed to ensure safety, so ensure you are fully aware of them. If you are unfamiliar with boating, you can take an online boating safety course.
If you plan on drinking, then please exercise caution. The boat driver must be 25 or over and possess a valid driving license. The boat’s operator must not be intoxicated, so you’ll still need a designated driver, just like on the road. Boat safety also includes passenger limits, don’t exceed the limitation given by the rental company. If you plan on fishing, all who plan on fishing must also have a Florida fishing license, and you apply for a temporary one online for the duration of your stay.
Jet Skis
If flying across the water on a jet ski is your idea of fun, then buckle up! You can rent a jet ski and get out on the water and enjoy the sun and ocean waves. You can book your jet ski when you book your Sanibel Island condo.
There will always be a certified, experienced guide from YOLO Watersports with you, so you can enjoy the experience. So, everyone in your group can rest assured that they can have a safe and fun adventure. Once you are out on the ocean, there is plenty to do and see. Drive around the Gulf of Mexico and get a glimpse of scenery not seen by everyone. Be mindful that there could be high waves and wind, which make the trip more challenging.
There is a two-hour excursion, so expect to have your mind blown. Take your camera but make sure you take one that is waterproof or well covered, as you don’t want to use your regular phone or camera, as it will likely get wet and damaged.
Parasailing
If flying high above the beach is more to your liking, then parasailing is definitely something you should look into. You can book your parasailing excursion on Sanibel Island ahead of time when you are booking your Sanibel Island two-bedroom condo rentals.
Imagine the view from way above the beach. Parasailing allows you to see miles of the Sanibel coastline from a bird’s eye view. It is the rush of a lifetime and will be something you remember for many years.
Spaces are limited if you consider booking a parasailing trip, and weather can also impact the experience. Book it when you book your condo, so you know it will be ready and waiting for you.
There are solo flights for those with experience but plenty of assistance for those who don’t. You can book a picture package, as well, just in case, as you don’t want to be trying to fiddle with your camera while flying above the sea. You can bring people out on the boat to watch you sail but are not ready to fly themselves. You can get them to take your picture or record your adventure so you can watch it repeatedly and remember your amazing vacation.
Banana Boats
A banana boat is a great deal of fun for the whole family. Six people can ride a banana boat for all the thrills and spills if they can swim. These boats can reach upwards of 15 miles per hour. They are lightweight boats that, when you sit across, resemble bananas. The ride lasts about ten minutes and is excellent for everyone in the family except babies or toddlers.
If you are a large group, why not book the boat for as many trips as you think you might need when you book your Sanibel Island rental? You can plan for the day and not worry about missing out.
A banana boat is a fun, easy way to get some exercise and enjoy the water. Check them out when looking into all the Sanibel Island rentals, whatever they may be. There is plenty to choose from.
Plan Your Visit
You will be building memories and having the time of your life while you kayak, parasail, or rent a boat at Sanibel Island. It’s a great way to celebrate a milestone event, a honeymoon, or just a vacation to get away from it all.
Where To Stay
Whether you want to relax your vacation away or get in as much adventure as possible, you can get everything you need with our Sanibel Island condo rentals. Sanibel has much to offer, so check out the watersports rentals available and book them when you book your condo.
Who’s ready for some fun? Yolo Watersports has been in business since 1987, offering fun and adventure to those who want some excitement in their vacation. Yolo Watersports is located on Captiva and offers activities such as banana boat rides, parasailing, Waverunner excursions and flyboarding. They are all about having fun on the water, guided by the safety experts at Yolo.
The business began on Captiva as Jim’s Rentals, under the ownership of Jim Floyd. Marcel Ventura, the current owner, joined Jim’s Rentals a year later, working for his best friend’s father. The business started out in the early days with Waverunner rentals, along with scooters and a dozen bikes. At that time, there was opposition by some of the local municipalities to watersports activities. However, the company persevered and 31 years later offers a full range of rentals for both land and sea. If you want to explore Sanibel and Captiva by land you can rent bicycles, scooters, jogging strollers or a scoot coupe for two. If water is your preference, parasailing, sailboats, skim boards, paddleboards or the popular banana boat are some options.
Whatever your choice, Yolo (“You Only Live Once”) Watersports may be just the thing to add some thrills and adventure to your vacation. The Ventura family will be happy to serve you as well as their many experienced employees including Tony Tromba, who works with guests on the parasailing rentals.
Yolo Watersports also offers golf cart rentals, which have increased in popularity since they first began renting them in 2005. If you find that you need beach chairs, coolers, umbrellas or anything else for the beach, Yolo is also a one-stop-shop for equipment. Add to that their convenient retail store just three doors from the beach and your beach shopping is complete if you need sunglasses, beach clothing or suntan lotion.
Contact Yolo Watersports to book your Sanibel or Captiva water or land sports escapade or to rent any other beach-related items. They are located at 11534 Andy Rosse Lane in Captiva. Call them at (239) 472-9656 or visit www.yolowatersports.com.

Sun, sand, and beaches can be found across Florida. After a while, it may seem that all tourist destinations are pretty much alike.
So, what makes Sanibel Island unique? There are plenty of reasons, but the following topics are what visitors to our Sanibel Island rentals seem to enjoy most.
Smaller Beaches
Low-key, quiet, and quaint – Sanibel Island beaches are both beautiful and secluded for anyone hoping to escape. These beaches are some of the most unique barrier islands in the world because of their east-west orientation, rather than the usual north-south. As a result, the island is gifted with a pristine shoreline, which includes an incredible diversity of shells. The beaches are an ideal location for spotting wildlife, from wading birds to nesting sea turtles. Sea turtle nesting season runs from May 1 to October 31. It is a breathtaking experience you won’t want to miss!
Shells
Sanibel Island is a shell lovers paradise. Shell collectors from around the world make pilgrimages to its beaches, as they are considered the best shelling spot in North America. This is because Sanibel’s beaches are protected by a broad underwater shelf, which gently washes intact shells onto the sand. It won’t take long for shell collectors to find perfect pastel coquinas or false angel wings.
Shells are not limited to the beaches. Locals, when digging their gardens, often find conchs, whelks, scallops, and clam shells that have been deposited over thousands of years. The island is littered with shells, and one might even say the entire island has “shell fever.” There are shell shops and an annual Sanibel Shell Fair and Shore. So many people can be spotted wandering around collecting shells that the motion one makes to pick up a shell has been dubbed the “Sanibel Stoop.”
Plan Your Next Vacation
Our friendly and professional staff are always eager to help. Contact us today to start planning your Sanibel Island vacation!
Whether you go shell collecting yourself or opt for shopping for seashells along the seashore, you will have no shortage of beautiful souvenirs to bring home!
Easy to Get Around
Only 12 miles in length, it isn’t difficult getting around. Save on gas and get some exercise by biking from one destination to the next. Don’t worry about bringing your bike from home. We offer on-site bike rentals for one, three, or seven days. There are many biking trails that crisscross the island, and we provide a trail map to help you find your way. A paved bike path even passes by Sandalfoot condos, so just hop on your bike and head out!
Safe Getaway
Sanibel Island is quiet and secluded, without the usual tourist traffic that has overrun other parts of Florida. Stroll around the island, and you’ll find galleries, shops, and restaurants all with a casual, welcoming atmosphere that makes you feel at home. There are plenty of opportunities to strike up conversations with the locals and learn more about the area. All the while, you can feel completely confident that you and your family are safe to wander the island at your leisure.
Why Stay at Sandalfoot
Our Sanibel Island condo rentals offer all the comforts and amenities of a home. Additionally, condo rentals are located on the east end of the island, just minutes away from the major attractions, such as Bailey Matthews National Shell Museum and Bowman’s Beach. The condos are located away from the infamous Periwinkle traffic, allowing you to maintain peace and privacy. Rentals include a bright and fresh décor, full amenities, as well as access to beautifully manicured grounds. Our Sanibel Island 2 bedroom condo rentals provide ideal and affordable accommodations for small families.
Sanibel Island is a hidden gem among Florida vacation destinations. It’s a quaint yet exciting island that gives you everything you need for the perfect family getaway. But there’s one major question you need to answer before you can start looking at Sanibel Island rentals: when should you visit? Read on to discover why fall is the best time to visit Sanibel Island.
Nice Weather
Sanibel Island is in Florida, so you can imagine how hot and unbearable the weather can get in the summertime. However, in the fall, Sanibel Island weather is much more manageable and lends itself well to your vacation. In the fall months of September, October, and November, high temperatures hover in the 80s with low temperatures in the 70s. You’ll still have warm weather to swim during the day, but you can enjoy indoor activities or relax by the fire in the evenings.
You also won’t have to worry about rain too much in the fall. There’s still a decent chance of showers throughout September, but by October, the rain chance decreases dramatically. You won’t need to pack an umbrella or make backup plans in case your activities get rained out.
Less Crowded
Most people visiting our Sanibel Island condo rentals do so in the summer. Since most people are out of school and have some vacation time to blow at work, this arrangement makes the most sense for their schedules. However, by the time Labor Day Weekend rolls around, most of the crowds have gone and the island’s population has greatly reduced.
If you’re able to resist the temptation of summer and plan your vacation for a couple months later, you’ll be thankful you did. Not only will there be fewer people fighting for rental properties and forming long lines at attractions, but it will also be easier to keep an eye on your children and not have to worry about losing them in a crowd.
Save Money
In the summertime, renters know that their properties are going to be in high demand. It’s not uncommon for renters to raise their prices in order to make as much money as possible in these hotter months. However, once the summer crowd leaves, renters still need to bring in earnings as they can.
This is where you come in! During the fall, renters typically drop their prices to try to entice visitors to stay. You’ll be able to grab a luxurious property at a fraction of the typical price. There’s no doubt you’ll get a serious upgrade from what you would typically consider, and all you had to do was postpone your vacation a month or two!
Places to Stay
Now that you know why fall is an incredible time to visit Sanibel Island, are you ready to plan your getaway? You’ll basically have your pick of the awesome Sanibel Island beachfront rentals across the island. Consider staying with Sandalfoot! No matter how much you want to spend or how many people you’re traveling with, we’ve got a vacation rental that will work for you.
We pride ourselves on providing comfortable, luxurious, safe, and affordable accommodations on Sanibel Island. You’ll always be just minutes away from the area’s best attractions while maintaining your preferred degree of privacy and seclusion. We’re always here for you from the day you book until the final day of your stay. So, what are you waiting for? Contact Sandalfoot today to learn more and to start planning the fall getaway of your dreams!
While Sanibel Island is known for its shelling opportunities, there’s so much more to be discovered here. Some of the most popular Sanibel Island attractions include strolling down the white sand beaches, sampling the fresh local seafood, and getting up close and personal with the most interesting wildlife. Luckily, Sanibel Island offers three convenient places to learn more about the plant and animal life, all conveniently located near our Sanibel beachfront rentals.
J.N. “Ding” Darling National Wildlife Refuge
At this local wildlife refuge, you can learn about the history of Sanibel Island while standing in the presence of rare bird species and the most breathtaking nature. You can take a hike or a bike ride along the Indigo Trail and Bailey Track, then visit the Visitors and Education Center to speak with a park ranger and learn more about the area. Experience the four-mile wildlife drive to see animals like alligators, raccoons, bobcats, and more. You can take to the water through kayaking, canoeing, boating, or stand up paddleboarding.
The wildlife refuge is open year-round, although some individual attractions may vary in operating hours. Please visit their website for admission costs and individual hours for each activity. You can also take in the wildlife preserve and other birdwatching sanctuaries during one of the many bird walks with the Sanibel-Captiva Audobon Society!
Clinic for the Rehabilitation of Wildlife (CROW)
Because Sanibel Island is home to so many species of animals, there is a wide emphasis on conservation and rehabilitation. This is the basis behind the Clinic for the Rehabilitation of Wildlife, also referred to as CROW. They hold various programs and presentations throughout the year, including daily presentations featuring an Animal Ambassador and conversations about the wildlife rescue efforts. You can also embark on a Wildlife Walk, led by one of the rehabilitators or staff members of the center. You’ll get to go behind the scenes at the hospital to see animals being cared for in real-time!
The Clinic for the Rehabilitation of Wildlife is located at 3883 Sanibel Captiva Road. They are open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The clinic is open Monday through Saturday from January to April, and they operate Monday through Friday from May through December. Adult admission (ages 13 and older) is $12, child admission (ages 4 to 12) is $7, and children 3 and under are free.
Sanibel Captiva Conservation Foundation
For more than 50 years, the Sanibel Captiva Conservation Foundation has been working to protect the island and the plants and animals that call the area home. The rotating events throughout the year help to educate both locals and visitors on the conservation efforts and the importance of preserving our environment. Come out for a Caloosahatchee Oxbow and River Lore Cruise, watch nature at night during Evenings at the Homestead, or take part in an annual fundraising event. You may also catch a special guest lecture depending on when you visit! There is a full calendar available on their website.
The foundation maintains six public preserves throughout Sanibel and Captiva Islands. Visit their website to learn more about each preserve and their hours of operation. The Sanibel Captiva Conservation Foundation’s main office is located at 3333 Sanibel Captiva Road. They are open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. until 3 p.m.
Whether you are already interested in nature or not, you will learn something new and find something that interests you at one of these Sanibel wildlife resources. They are all operated by knowledgeable and friendly staff who are passionate about protecting our environment and educating the public.
You can easily reach any of these three locations from our Sanibel Island rentals. We offer rental options for every group, so whether you’re traveling with your whole extended family or it’s just you and your sweetheart, you’ll have the vacation home of your dreams! However, there’s one hidden gem of Florida that you probably haven’t discovered yet. Sanibel Island is an incredible stop for the entire family, and it’s near other lesser-known destinations like Naples, Marco Island, and Bonita Springs. If you’re up for a new and exciting vacation spot, a stay in one of our Sanibel Island rentals might be the perfect fit!
Location
You might be wondering, “Where is Sanibel Island in the first place?” Sanibel Island is located on the West Coast of Florida near several other barrier islands. The island has an area of around 33 square miles, but only about 17 of those miles is land. The rest? Some of the most stunning waters you’ve ever waded into!
Sanibel Island is easy to reach from several larger Florida destinations. It’s a quick drive to Everglades City, Fort Myers, Cape Coral, and more. One of the best things about Sanibel Island is its close proximity to the mainland. You can always head to a nearby city if you’re looking for more to explore.
Getting Around
The first step to enjoying your Sanibel Island getaway is by getting here! Luckily, you’ve got a few different options from several other points in Florida. By air, the easiest way to get to Sanibel Island is by flying into the Southwest Florida International Airport in Fort Myers. From there, it’s just a 45-minute drive into Sanibel.
You’re also able to fly into Tampa or Miami airports, but the drive from either location takes about 3 hours. Driving in from Orlando’s airport will set you back an additional hour. No matter which airport you fly into, you’ll arrive on Sanibel Island via the Sanibel Causeway.
Once you get onto the island itself, Sanibel Island directions are pretty straightforward. There are two main parallel roads along the island: Periwinkle Way and Gulf Drive. Periwinkle Way is the main thoroughfare and takes you through the shopping and dining district. Gulf Drive, on the other hand, takes you past the homes, resorts, and the top Sanibel beaches along the water.
Things to Do
You’ve finally arrived on Sanibel Island! Now, what fun things are there to get into? Start out by exploring Sanibel’s world-famous beaches, known for the unmatched shelling opportunities. You’ll get used to doing the “Sanibel Stoop,” the classic bend at the hips you adopt when you’re bending down to grab a unique seashell. You can also visit the Bailey-Matthews Shell Museum to identify what you’ve found!
J.N. “Ding” Darling National Wildlife Refuge is the perfect stop for the animal lover or nature fanatic in your group, and if you want to learn more about the area’s wildlife, head to the Clinic for the Rehabilitation of Wildlife (CROW). Stroll through the Sanibel Historical Museum and Village to get an in-depth look at the fascinating past of the island, or make your way to Big Arts for some fun cultural activities.

However, we’ve rounded up our top four favorite restaurants right here!
The Clam Shack
You might think that you have to travel up to Maine to taste the best of New England seafood, but The Clam Shack brings that delicious cuisine right down here to Florida! This family-owned restaurant has quickly become one of the most popular staple locations on the island, perfect for when you want to spend a casual lunch or dinner with your loved ones. The team at The Clam Shack prides itself on providing a relaxing and welcoming environment for all groups, so you don’t want to miss a trip here!
Although the name of this restaurant is The Clam Shack, there’s so much more on the menu than just clams. Enjoy a delicious lobster roll, some delicious fried scallops, an order of New England Style Fish and Chips, and more. You can even get a Clam Bake (enough for two people) to have everything taken care of in one order! Timbers Restaurant & Fish Market
If you’re searching for the most unique Sanibel Island restaurants, you have to make a stop at Timbers Restaurant & Fish Market. This establishment has been serving guests and locals of Sanibel Island since 1978 and is one of the best places to get the freshest seafood you can find in the area. If you want to prepare your food yourself, there are all kinds of incredible options for you to choose from in the market, which rotate daily. However, if you don’t want to go through the hard work of preparing yourself, you can stop by the restaurant for the same delicious cuisine!

The menu here offers a little something for everyone, so even the pickiest eaters will enjoy their meal. While entree options may vary depending on the season, visitors have been enjoying before the lobster tail, Captiva crab cakes, sea scallops, crunchy grouper, and more lately. If you’re not in the mood for seafood, they do also offer several varieties of steaks.
Timbers Restaurants & Fish Market is located at 703 Tarpon Bay Road. They are open daily from 5 to 8:30 p.m.
Lazy Flamingo
At one point, the Lazy Flamingo was a restaurant that only the locals knew about. However, it has since caught the attention of visitors. Many now consider it one of the best restaurants on Sanibel Island. If you’re looking for a genuinely casual experience where you can relax and be yourself, Lazy Flamingo offers it! You can enjoy a nice cold beer with your friends or bring the kids along to enjoy the exciting atmosphere.
On the menu, you’ll find just about any seafood option you can imagine, including oysters, clams, shrimp, mussels, and more. You can also enjoy fried grouper, fried shrimp, and land options like chicken tenders and Mesquite-grilled ribs. No matter what you select, you can rest assured that it’s been prepared with precious local ingredients and is always made to order. At the end of your meal, finish off with a slice of Key Lime Pie or ask about their daily dessert specials.
Lazy Flamingo is located at 1036 Periwinkle Way. They are open Sunday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Friday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.

If you’ve been on the lookout for the best Sanibel Island bars, don’t miss a trip to Doc Ford’s Rum Bar & Grille. White is an area local and can even be seen frequenting the restaurant throughout the year! Even if you haven’t read the novels, you can still enjoy a delicious meal and an incredible atmosphere.
The menu here features flavors inspired by the Caribbean Rim, but of course, you’ll be dining on the freshest seafood that Sanibel Island has to offer. Lately, visitors have enjoyed selections like the macadamia nut-crusted grouper, seafood paella, penne with shrimp, banana leaf snapper, and more. Come take advantage of the gorgeous wildlife, white sand beaches, mouth-watering seafood, and so much more.
The weather in Sanibel Island is great all year round, but there are certain changes throughout the individual seasons. No matter what time of year you plan to visit, our Sanibel Island condo rentals provide the perfect place to rest your head at night. Here is a breakdown of the annual Sanibel Island weather.
Winter
While winter is cooler in Sanibel Island, it is certainly not as cold as you may experience in other parts of the United States. During the winter months of December, January, and February, the average high temperatures range in the mid-70s, while low temperatures stay around 50 degrees. This is the perfect weather to experience outdoor activities with just a light jacket in the evening hours.
You won’t have to bring an umbrella on vacation with you during the winter, as it is the middle of the dry season. Average rainfall in the winter months is less than 2 inches, so there should be no reason for the weather to alter your plans.
Spring
As the flowers begin to bloom, you’ll experience slightly higher temperatures in the spring. For the months of March, April, and May, the high temperatures range in the 80s, while lows stay in the high 50s and 60s. Consider bringing a light jacket for the evening, but enjoy the water during the morning and afternoon!
Rainfall in the spring is slightly higher as we move into the rainy season. March and April are relatively dry, but May starts to bring higher averages of rainfall. You may experience an afternoon shower that brings in the cool weather for the evening.
Summer
As you can probably expect, summer is the hottest season that Sanibel Island experiences. Average high temperatures for the months of June, July, and August range in the 90s, and low temperatures still stay warm in the 70s. This season is perfect for experiencing the indoor attractions, like the many Sanibel Island the museums and historical sites that provide a much-needed respite from the summer sun.
Summer is also the wet season for Sanibel Island, with average rainfall hovering around 8 or 9 inches for the summer months. This rain often comes in the form of an afternoon shower that cools everything down for relaxing and seashell hunting in the later hours. Consider bringing a raincoat or umbrella with you for your stay.
Fall
Finally, Sanibel Island sees a break from the heat in the fall months. Expect high temperatures for September, October, and November to range in the 80s, and low temperatures will remain in the 60s and 70s. Much like spring, you may consider bringing a sweater or jacket for nighttime.
The beginning of fall is still in the rainy season, so average rainfall in September hovers around 8 inches. However, as we move into the later fall months, rainfall totals average only 2 or 3 inches per month. You likely won’t need an umbrella on your trip, but you might consider an indoor activity if you run into an afternoon shower.

Sanibel Island is one of the up-and-coming vacation destinations of the Sunshine State, but why do people love it so much? Between the breathtaking white sand beaches, the incredible cuisine featuring fresh local seafood, and the welcoming locals who can show you to the best attractions, there’s really no question why vacationers flock to Sanibel Island. When you visit our shores, it helps to know a little bit about the area’s history, as well as what makes the island so famous in the first place and what you can do once you arrive. Here’s everything you need to know before you check into one of our Sanibel Island rentals.
History
Sanibel Island’s history dates back about 6,000 years, as historians believe that Sanibel and the neighboring Captiva Island formed as one landmass around this time. About 2,500 years ago, the Calusa Indians were the first known residents of Sanibel Island, known for transforming the waterways into riches of tools and food. It is believed that Juan Ponce de Leon came up on Sanibel Island in 1513 while he was searching for the Fountain of Youth and fought with the Calusas for years until being killed in 1523.
While the Spanish did not establish a permanent settlement in the 1500, their arrival did introduce slavery and European disease to the island, and by the late 1700s, the Calusa population was virtually extinct. Jose Gaspar came to the region in the early 1800s, where it was rumored that he buried stolen treasure. The island saw Indian raids and increased military activity even into the Civil War, and by 1870, the U.S. government declared that the island would become a lighthouse reservation.
Famous Destination
How has Sanibel Island remained a world-renowned vacation destination? One of the biggest appeals of the island is its quaint atmosphere. While much of Florida has become incredibly overdeveloped, Sanibel Island has remained a relaxing paradise where you can truly escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life. You don’t have to worry about navigating through high-rises and tons of traffic. Instead, you can take your time strolling on the shoreline, looking out for native bird species, or getting to know the locals in town.
The other big draw to Sanibel Island is the seashells. Sanibel Island is known to have some of the best shelling in the entire world thanks to the unique position on the coast. Most islands run north and south, parallel to the coast, but much of Sanibel Island sits perpendicular to the coast in an east-to-west situation before the land curves and takes on a boomerang shape. This unique feature cuts the current, which forces shells along the ocean floor where they become trapped and wash up on the sand of Sanibel Island.
Things to Do
If you’re looking for things to do on Sanibel Island, you won’t have to search very far! There’s a little something for everyone, no matter what you’re interested in. If you’re interested in the shelling, don’t miss out on the Bailey-Matthews National Shell Museum, or try your hand at gathering some yourself at Bowman’s Beach or along any other shoreline. Nature lovers will want to visit the J.N. “Ding” Darling National Wildlife Refuge, and history buffs will be interested in sites like the Sanibel Historical Museum and Village and the Sanibel Lighthouse.
Once you get hungry, indulge in Caribbean eats at Doc Ford’s Rum Bar & Grille or sample classic American favorites at The Island Cow. The Mad Hatter Restaurant is perfect for date night, while The Sandbar specializes in the best seafood around. Finish off your meal with a cool treat from Joey’s Custard or a refreshing cocktail at Traditions on the Beach.
